Abstract
We report observation of oscillatory instabilities leading to chaos in a single longitudinal but multi-transverse-mode cw laser. Particularly interesting is the observation of stable oscillation involving three transverse modes en route to chaos. Furthermore, these results are obtained under predominantly homogeneously broadened lasing transition.
