Abstract
The phase behavior associated with tricritical phenomena in two classical fluid mixture models is described. The characteristic features of the isothermal composition–space phase diagram near a tricritical point are examined in the order–parameter expansion model previously investigated by Griffiths. These characteristic features are then related to the global phase behavior and the underlying interparticle interactions of the four‐component lattice‐gas model solved in a mean‐field approximation and to the known phase behavior of relevant experimental systems. Keywords
