Bond Rupture of HBr80m Following Nuclear Isomeric Transition

Abstract
When the Br80m in HBr80m undergoes isomeric transition the HBr80 bond is broken in 93% or more of the events rather than only 75% as indicated by earlier work. In gaseous mixtures of HBr, CH3Br, and 1,2‐dibromethylene containing either HBr80m or CH3Br80m, the distribution of the Br80 daughter between organic and inorganic combination is dependent upon the HBr/C2H2Br2 ratio, indicating that C2H2Br2 does not compete as effectively with HBr for the Br80 atoms as formerly thought.
