LXXXIII Studies on the Physiology of the Trachea

Abstract
A method for direct registration of [human] ciliary beat frequency by a micro-electrode is described. With the electrode in the ciliated cell layer, potential oscillations with frequencies of the same magnitude as those measured by the indirect surface reflex methods were registered. The recorded oscillations are regarded as superimposed action potentials. Frequency shifts are observed like those found by the indirect television microscope registration via the surface reflexes. Amplitude shifts with oscillations varying from 200 [mu]V to about 1 mV are found, and the amplitude decreases with increasing frequency.
