Abstract
The efficacy of the radioprotective agent aminopropylaminoethylthiophosphate (WR 2721) was tested against different kinds of radiation on female NMRI-mice. The animals were divided into 4 groups which were exposed to neutrons as the main component, secondary .gamma.-rays in a tissue-equivalent phantom, pure .gamma.-rays and X-rays, respectively. The following dose reduction factors were obtained: 1.05 for neutron-irradiation, 1.33 for .gamma.-irradiation in tissue-equivalent phantom, 1.69 for pure .gamma.-rays and 2.08 for X-rays. The protective agent WR 2721 is apparently more efficient against low linear energy transfer radiation. The mechanism of protection has been discussed in this respect.
