Abstract
In connection with the possible existence of a nuclear electric hexadecapole moment, and the resulting large induced hexadecapole moment for medium and heavy ions due to antishielding effects, expressions have been obtained for the additional induced hexadecapole moment, HindQ, due to the perturbation of the ion by the field of the nuclear quadrupole moment Q taken in second order. HindQ is proportional to Q2. Numerical results for some of the terms of HindQ are presented for the Cu+, Ag+, and Hg++ ions.
