Abstract
In connection with the possible existence of a nuclear electric hexadecapole moment, and the resulting large induced hexadecapole moment for medium and heavy ions due to antishielding effects, expressions have been obtained for the additional induced hexadecapole moment, , due to the perturbation of the ion by the field of the nuclear quadrupole moment taken in second order. is proportional to . Numerical results for some of the terms of are presented for the , , and ions.
