Calculation of parity non-conserving optical rotation in atomic bismuth

Abstract
The recently discovered weak neutral current interaction may give rise to observable parity non-conserving effects in atoms. The authors have calculated the expected magnitude of the optical rotation in bismuth and find values phi PNC=3.0*10-7 and 4.0*10-7 rad for the lambda =876 and 648 nm allowed M1 transitions from the ground state.
