DEGENERATION OF THE GRANULAR LAYER OF THE CEREBELLUM

Abstract

The incidence of cerebellar degeneration accompanying visceral carcinoma was investigated in 14 cases, 8 of which showed degeneration of the granular layer. Six patients who died in diabetic or hypoglycemic coma were negative, but 4 cases of amaurotic idiocy showed granular layer degeneration. The pathogenesis is obscure but is tentatively interpreted to be due to nutritional deficiency.
