Abstract
The performance of N2–CO2–He lasers operating at pressures in the 10–120‐Torr range and with nitrogen flow rates of 20–90 standard liters per minute is discussed. A 10‐cm‐long, 13.5‐mm‐i.d. discharge tube produced 140‐W output power. These lasers operate as in‐line mixing lasers, producing about one photon per excited nitrogen molecule. Cooling is provided by rapid removal of hot gas from the discharge region. Keywords
