Infrared Spectrum of SOF2

Abstract

An investigation of the infrared spectrum of gaseous thionyl fluoride results in the following fundamental assignment: $${\nu }_1{\mathrm{(a}}^{\prime }\text{)=1333\hspace{0.17em}}{\mathrm{cm}}^{\text{−1}}{\mathrm{,\hspace{0.17em}\hspace{0.17em}\nu }}_2{\mathrm{(a}}^{\prime }\text{)=808\hspace{0.17em}}{\mathrm{cm}}^{\text{−1}}{\mathrm{,\hspace{0.17em}\hspace{0.17em}\nu }}_3{\mathrm{(a}}^{\prime }\text{)=530\hspace{0.17em}}{\mathrm{cm}}^{\text{−1}}.$$ $${\nu }_4{\mathrm{(a}}^{\prime }\text{)=(410)\hspace{0.17em}}{\mathrm{cm}}^{\text{−1}}{\mathrm{,\hspace{0.17em}\hspace{0.17em}\nu }}_5{\mathrm{(a}}^{\mathrm{\prime \prime }}\text{)=748\hspace{0.17em}}{\mathrm{cm}}^{\text{−1}}{\mathrm{,\hspace{0.17em}\hspace{0.17em}\nu }}_6{\mathrm{(a}}^{\mathrm{\prime \prime }}\text{)=390\hspace{0.17em}}{\mathrm{cm}}^{\text{−1}}.$$ Thermodynamic functions for SOF₂ are calculated with the usual assumptions.
