Abstract
The severe PAS reactions in humans undergoing antituberculosis therapy are of an acquired sensitivity type. The reaction occurs in about 3 wks. after onset of daily admn. The cause of the reaction is best established by giving a test dose of PAS which will reproduce similar but milder symptoms of the primary reaction. Cross sensitivity to acetyl-salicylic acid exists. Various types of reactions are discussed. Recognition of this syndrome is vital because of current combined drug therapy of tuberculosis. Desensitization is possible when PAS is needed for therapy in the PAS sensitive individual.
