A Cytological Study of Myxococci

Abstract
The life cycle of the myxococci have been studied using nuclear staining techniques. The microcyst exhibits 2 chromatinic bodies lying close together. On germination they move apart and cellular division is preceded by division of these bodies so that four are formed. No transverse septa can be demonstrated. After vegetative growth some cells enlarge, the 2 chromatinic bodies move together and fuse. The resulting cell, which has been termed. a fusion cell by the author, develops a tough membrane, the single chromatinic body elongates and divides, resulting again in the microcyst.
