SOME FACTORS INFLUENCING THE EFFECTS OF ANOXIC ANOXIA

Abstract
The resistance of the adult white rat to the effect of anoxia was lowered by hypoglycemia (insulin), hyperthyroidism (thyroxine) and anemia (hemorrhagic), was rasied by hypothyroidism (thiouracil), and was unaffected by hyperglycemia (glucose injn.). Newborn rats were more resistant to the effects of O2 deprivation than adult rats. Animals suffering a 2-hr. exposure to atmospheres containing 4.5 to 6.0% O2 were normal after a few days but did show som loss of appetite and required twice as long to regain their pre-exptl. body wt. as did rats exposed to 20% O2.
