Abstract
The numerous disease names given to the cardiac condition characterized by massive and bizarre asymmetric cardiac hypertrophy are discussed. The incidence of this disease, its clinical presentation with symptoms of left ventricular outflow obstruction (dyspnea, angina and syncope), the gross morphological and microscopic features used to distinguish this condition from other diseases and the use of echocardiography in diagnosis are presented. Surgical attempts to replace the mitral valve for amelioration of left ventricular outflow obstruction are discussed. This publication has 13 references indexed in Scilit:
