Abstract
The history of the use of the combination Celmisia coriacea (Forst. f.) Hook. f. is discussed and is shown to have been applied incorrectly in recent floras and treatments of Celmisia. The epithet is correctly assigned to plants known as Celmisia lanceolata Cockayne. Plants generally known as Celmisia coriacea belong to C. semicordata Petrie which includes three subspecies: subsp. semicordata, subsp. aurigans D. R. Given subsp. nov., and subsp. stricta (Ckn.) D. R. Given comb.nov. Celmisia subgenus Pelliculatae series Pelliculatae and series Lanceolatae are revised. In addition to the above species the following are recognised: C. armstrongii Petrie, C. dubia Cheeseman, C. insignis W. Martin, C. monroi Hook.f., C. morganii Cheeseman, and C. rutlandii T. Kirk. The last species is transferred to section Pelliculatae, although it was earlier placed in section Petiolatae.
