Abstract
In the Burns Unit, Copenhagen, infection arises in most cases within the first 2 weeks postburn. The time of onset depends exclusively upon the extent of the burn, not upon its depth or the patient's age. The duration of infection usually exceeds 2 weeks, but is shorter in children as well as in superficial and small burns than in elderly persons and in deep or extensive burns. The influence of infection upon the healing time is demonstrated.
