A METHOD FOR THE DETERMINATION OF AUREOMYCIN IN THE BLOOD

Abstract
Assay of aureomycin levels in the blood has been difficult because of the deterioration of this antibiotic at 37[degree]C. With a tube dilution method using Bacillus #5, a soil isolate furnished by the Lederle Laboratories as the test organism and incubated at room temp., as little as 0.04 [mu]g./ml. can be measured. A satisfactory degree of accuracy was found with 36 samples of normal human serum containing known amts. of aureomycin. Periodic blood levels up to 24 hrs. after oral admn. of 250 and 500 mg. single doses were detd. in 2 groups of patients. A significant level was found in both groups 12 hrs. after admn.
