Abstract
The reaction has been studied at incident pion momenta of 1111, 1206, and in the Lawrence Radiation Laboratory 72-in. liquid-hydrogen bubble chamber. The cross section for this process was found to be 144±10 μb at , 214±15 μb at , and 278±20 μb at . The measured value of the mean lifetime of the was (0.76±0.03)× sec. Decay asymmetries gave values of of -0.16±0.15, 0.05±0.14, and 0.30±0.14, and values of of 0.50±0.13, 0.37±0.13, and 0.68±0.12 at 1111, 1206, and , respectively. The angular distribution of the hyperons and as a function of the production angle are presented at each of the three momenta, along with the results of partial-wave analyses based on these distributions.
