PLASMA POLYSACCHARIDE FRACTION CONTAINING URONIC ACID, IN NORMAL SUBJECTS AND IN PATIENTS WITH RHEUMATOID ARTHRITIS 1

Abstract
A material behaving as an anionic polysaccharide containing uronic acid, hexosamine and one or more sugars in the ratio of 1.09: 1.00: .91 mol. was found in human euglobulin. No trace of this material was found in euglobulin-free plasma, but in the plasma of 10 patients with rheumatoid arthritis it showed an increase. The increase appears as an increased amount of euglobulin and not as euglobulin with an increased amount of polysaccharide.
