Laser excited Raman spectrum of 1,1,1-trifluoro-2,2,2-trichloroethane

Abstract
Laser excited Raman spectra of 1,1,1‐trifluoro‐2,2,2‐trichloroethane have been studied in detail using laser sources, and new data have been obtained. The spectra show eight new Raman bands. Out of these eight bands one band at 659 cm−1 (ρ≃0) has been assigned as the CF3 deformation fundamental vibration of species A1. The other bands at 61, 92, 202, 232, 287, 476, and 518 cm−1 have been interpreted as combinations of the assigned fundamentals. The Raman band at 61 cm−1 (ρ≃0.43), being interpreted as 2×ν6=61 cm−1 (A1), predicts a value of 30.5 cm−1 for the torsional frequency of this molecule, which corresponds to a cosine potential barrier of aproximately 1260 cal/molecule.
