Fe54(d, p)Fe55 Reaction and the Nuclear Structure of Ti51, Cr53, and Fe55

Abstract
Energy levels in Fe55 have been investigated by means of the Fe54(d, p)Fe55 reaction using 7.8-MeV deuterons from The University of Michigan 42-in. cyclotron. Twenty-eight levels were found up to 5.4 MeV of excitation and angular distributions obtained for eighteen of them. The n values and reduced widths were extracted from the data by means of a distorted-wave Born-approximation analysis. An attempt is made to understand the spectra of the 29-neutron nuclei Ti51, Cr53, and Fe55 in terms of a shell-model description involving configurations of 2, 4, or 6 (1f72) protons and a single neutron in the 2p32, 2p12, or 1f52 orbit.
