The Relationship Between Iron Storage and Anaemia

Abstract
The amt. of hemosiderin visible in sections of bone marrow, the serum Fe level and the type of anemia was correlated in a series of consecutive hematological cases into 4 groups: (1) Fe deficiency anemia in which marrow Fe is absent and serum Fe low, (2) in pernicious anemia, both the marrow and serum Fe levels are raised but fall during treatment, (3) in anemia of sepsis and uremia, marrow Fe is high but serum Fe is low, (4) miscellaneous group in which the marrow Fe level depends in the main on whether there has been concomitant blood loss, sepsis, hemolysis, or repeated blood transfusions.
