Abstract
A recording stress relaxometer is described. This instrument measures the lateral deflection of bowed steel strips in the load‐measuring element. The deflection is measured electrically by means of a linear differential transformer coupled to a recording potentiometer through an ac electronic voltmeter. The recording stress relaxometer maintains the strain in the sample constant to 0.001 inch during complete relaxation of the stress. It can be used on materials with moduli ranging between 107 and 1011 dynes/cm2. It is also suitable for use as a simple tensile tester. Keywords
