Abstract
Earthquake-uplifted beach ridges around the west Wellington coast are correlated and the beach ridge uplifted by the Haowhenua earthquake of Maori tradition (c. 500 years ago) is identified. A Maori plaggen soil is overlain by the beach ridge and is thought to be older than the Haowhenua earthquake. Moa-hunter sites are above or seawards of the beach ridge and are thought to be younger than the earthquake.Keywords
