Abstract
Surfaces of (111)Ag platelets prepared by vacuum deposition in situ in an ultra-high-vacuum electron microscope are investigated. Monatomic high terraces, which nucleate and grow one after another by Ag deposition, show distinct contrast between them in the dark field images of the (01,1)hex reflection of 1∼1.5. Imaging of monatomic surface layers by surface reflection is discussed in comparison with that by bulk forbidden reflection. Keywords
