Abstract
The method was based upon the detn. of the least amt. of diffusing factor required to produce a 20% increase in the mean area of blebs made in the skins of a group of 6 guinea-pigs compared with control blebs. By this means 2-fold differences in activity could be detected. Assays were made of a number of preps. from animal and bacterial sources, covering a wide range of activity, and the values were compared with the hyaluronidase content as measured by the reduction of viscosity of hyaluronic acid. Reasonable agreement was found.
