Effect of Hypophysectomy on Several Rat Adrenal NADPHGenerating and Oxidizing Systems

Abstract
The effect of hypophysectomy on glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase, 6- phosphogluconate dehydrogenase, isocitrate dehydrogenase, NADPH-cytochrome c reductase, glutathione reductase and pyridine nucleotide transhydrogenase in rat adrenal has been studied. A fall in activity of glucose- 6-phosphate dehydrogenase, 6-phosphogluconate dehydrogenase and glutathione reductase was observed following hypophysectomy. This fall appears to be insignificant at the time when corticosteroid secretion decreases. A study of the subcellular distribution of the particulate enzymes was also performed.
