Effect of 2-Acetylamino-1,3,4-Thiadiazole-5-Sulfonamide (Diamox) on Sodium, Potassium, Bicarbonate and Buffer Content of Saliva.

Abstract
The daily administration of 2-acetyl-amino-l,3,4-thiadiazole-5-sulfonamide provoked a pronounced decrease in the Na, bicarbonate and buffer content of paraffin-stimulated human saliva in both normotensive and hypertensive patients. The K level of saliva was not affected. The changes in saliva Na, K, bicarbonate and buffer content which followed the administration of the carbonic anhydrase inhibitor were similar to those observed in normotensive persons in whom metabolic acidosis was induced with NH4Cl.
