Abstract
We calculate branching ratios for a number of charmless nonleptonic two-body decays of mesons using the two-loop renormalization-group-improved effective Hamiltonian and the Bauer-Stech-Wirbel model. The QCD loop-induced (penguin) contributions are taken into account, and the leading approximation is examined in the naive factorization scheme. Our present estimates of branching ratios for those Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa suppressed channels are quite different from the previous results obtained in the tree-level approximation.
