Blood Levels of 17-Hydroxycorticosteroids in Hyperthermic Dogs.

Abstract

Dogs (24) were subjected to an ambient temperature of sufficient magnitude to elevate rectal temperatures to 42.5[degree]C for one hour. Their plasma 17-hydroxycorti-costeroid concentrations and their plasma and erythrocyte electrolyte concentrations were measured. Significant changes were observed in all measured variables with the exception of plasma Na concentration, which was not altered from the control values. Physiological implications of these data are discussed.
