Charged-particle multiplicity distributions in 100-GeV/cpd,π+d,p-nucleon, andπ-nucleon interactions

Abstract
In an experiment in the Fermilab 30-inch deuterium bubble chamber, we have determined the pd and π+d charged-particle multiplicity distributions. We use corrected odd-prong distributions plus a no-cascade model to extract the pn and π+n multiplicity distributions, and indicate how a cascade model could alter the distributions. We examine the relations between pn and pp, and π+n and πp, multiplicity distributions. For each pair, a relation is found involving quantities that give the probability, at each multiplicity, that a struck proton remains a pro on. These quantities are evaluated and compared with expectations.
