Self-Evaluation, Role Satisfaction, and Anxiety in the Woman Alcoholic

Abstract
Compared with a matched group of 100 controls, 100 alcoholic women had a significantly poorer self-concept, viewed themselves as less personally competent, experienced greater anxiety and were less satisfied with themselves. The alcoholic and nonalcoholic women had similar concepts of other men and women and shared similar views of the roles of women in contemporary society. The need for research comparing alcoholic women with matched female controls was stressed.
