EFFECT OF OESTRADIOL MONOBENZOATE ON THE METABOLISM OF RAT UTERINE MUSCLE

Abstract
The utilization of glucose, glycogenolysis and lactate formation of castrate rat myometrium was studied in controls and in rats given 50 [mu]g. estradiol benzoate in oil intramusc. 48 hrs. before sacrifice. Estradiol increased glucose utilization, glycogen breakdown and lactate formation. The glucose and glycolysis effects occurred anaerobically as well as aerobically. O2 uptake by myometrium was lower than striated muscle. QO2 was increased by estradiol. The estrogen effect is probably at the hexokinase -catalyzed glucose phosphorylation stage.
