Control of Infectious Synovitis. 14. The Effect of Age of Chickens on the Susceptibility to Three Agents

Abstract
Studies were conducted to determine the effect of age of chickens on their susceptibility to 3 synovitis agents. Isolated groups of chickens were inoculated at 2, 5, 10, 15, or 20 wks. old with 1 of these agents. Contact control chickens were kept with each inoculated group. Mycoplasma synoviae remained highly virulent for all age groups. No marked age resistance was shown against Mycoplasma gallisepticum up through 20 wks. Unknown agent WVU 1675 was definitely less able to infect chickens after 10 wks. of age.
