PROLONGATION OF BABOON TO RHESUS KIDNEY XENOGRAFT SURVIVAL BY PRETRANSPLANT RHESUS BLOOD TRANSFUSIONS

Abstract
Preliminary findings on the effect of rhesus blood transfusions on the survival of baboon xenografts in rhesus recipients are reported. Although the number of animals was limited, blood transfusions favorably influenced kidney graft survival in this xenogeneic combination. Unrelated male and female (nulliparous) rhesus monkeys (Macaca mulatta) weighing 3-5 kg were used as recipients. Male and female baboons (Papio cynocephalus) were used as donors.
