Elastic constants and diamagnetic anisotropy of p-disubstituted phenylcyclohexanes (PCH)

Abstract
The elastic and diamagnetic properties of some p‐disubstituted phenylcyclohexanes (PCH) are investigated by studying the elastic deformation of a nematic layer under the influence of electric and magnetic fields. The elastic constants kii (i=1, 2, 3) and the anisotropy Δχ of the diamagnetic susceptibility are obtained from capacitance and optical measurements on nematic layers of various geometrical configurations with respect to the direction of the applied fields.
