Studies in vitamin A. 20. Some properties of retinene2

Abstract
Retinene2 with aliphatic amines forms spectroscopic analogs of acid and alkaline indicator yellow2. With aromatic amines it forms compounds which after acidification exhibit a new broad band with [lambda] max. 560 m[mu]. Retinene2 reacts with concentrated sulfuric acid to give colored unstable products with absorption peaks near 570, 525 and 470 m[mu]. The bearing of these results on the chemistry of vision is discussed briefly.
