Evidence for Isotopic Impuritons in Solid Helium

Abstract
Measurements of the spin diffusion coefficient D and the NMR linewidth T21 are reported for a He3 impurity in solid He4 at molar volume 21 cm3. For x3<3×102, Dx3=(1.2±0.4)×1011 cm2 sec1, where x3 is the fractional impurity concentration, and for x3<2×103, T2x3=(1.1±0.3)×104 sec. These results conform with a model of "impuriton" excitations or "mass fluctuation waves" in which the quasiparticles move like a gas.
