Abstract
Results of a temperature-dependent study of the magnetic susceptibility and anisotropy for : are reported for the first time. Measurements were made using a Faraday balance and a sensitive torsion balance over the temperature range 1-350 °K. The data could be described using the previously observed spectroscopic parameters, and estimates of the Van Vleck susceptibility for all three trigonal states are obtained. The value for the second excited state differs in sign from Macfarlane's calculated value.
