Abstract
In X. fenesterata the males develop from unfertilized eggs (arrhenotokous parthenogenesis). The haploid male/diploid female chromosomal relationship is 16/32. Male meiosis 1 is abortive, but unlike other Hymenoptera a non-nucleated bud, usually considered as representing the vestigial secondary spermatocyte, is not produced. The second spermatocyte division is unusual as only one functional spermatid is formed.
