Abstract
This article reviews research and summarizes the main trends in the study of membrane phenomena. Topics discussed include: structure of the plasma membrane; models of membrane systems; transport of alkali metal ions; excitation phenomena; Ca transport; transport of anions; osmotic properties, water and nonelectrolytes; transport of sugars and amino acids; energetics; Ca effects; hormone actions; synthesis of membrane components; regulation of membrane functions; and subcellular membrane structure. This publication has 282 references indexed in Scilit:
