Abstract
The velocity distribution of caesium atoms issuing from a multi-channel glass capillary array has been studied and an energy-exchange process proposed to account for the modification to a Maxwellian distribution. The importance of knowing the exact distribution in the measurement of atomic beam total scattering cross sections is indicated by the calculation of the appropriate kinetic averaging factors. Keywords
