Low-Temperature Magnetic Susceptibilities of Al2O3: V3+

Abstract
Previous measurements of the magnetic anisotropy of single-crystal Al2 O3: V3+ in the temperature range 1-5°K have already been used to obtain more accurate values for the zero-field splitting δ and for the perpendicular splitting factor g. The results of measurements by the Faraday method of χ and χ are reported here along with some new anisotropy measurements. The results for all the parameters agree very well between the two experiments, and the values found are δ=8.06±0.15 cm1, g=1.720±0.003, and the spin-orbit parameter λ=91±1 cm1.
