Abstract
Factors responsible for the decreased streptomycin sensitivity of tubercle bacilli grown in Youmans medium over those grown in Dubos-Davis medium were studied. Tween-80 was found to be the critical factor since this substance alone increased the tuberculostatic power of streptomycin at least 1000 x. Glycerin exerted a similar action, but to a lesser extent. It is recommended that a test medium consist simply of a liquid synthetic base enriched with plasma or serum. Keywords
