Excitation Functions of Some Reactions of 6- to 24-MeVHe3Ions with Carbon and Aluminum

Abstract
Excitation functions of the reactions C12(He3, α)C11, C12(He3, pn)N13, C12(He3, 2α)Be7, Al27(He3, α2p)Na24, Al27(He3, 2α)Na22, and Al27(He3, 3α)F18 have been measured for He3 energies from 6 to 24 MeV by the stackedfoil technique. The cross section for production of C11 reaches a maximum of 340 mb at 8.9 MeV, with smaller maxima at 10.6 and 15.5 MeV. The cross section for N13 reaches a broad maximum of 140 mb in the vicinity of 14 MeV, with evidence of a secondary maximum at 10.9 MeV. The cross section for Be7, measured with somewhat poorer resolution, reaches a broad maximum of about 100 mb in the vicinity of 17.5 MeV. The cross section for production of Be7 by 24-MeV He3 bombardment of aluminum is about 0.1 mb.
