Lifetime determinations and their errors using pulsed dye lasers

Abstract
The effects of the frequency fluctuations of pulsed dye lasers on the determination of atomic lifetimes by the decay of fluorescence are estimated. A small shift in the estimated lifetime will occur due to the inability to completely correct for pile-up errors. However, the statistics of the number of counts in each channel of the pulse height analyser are not affected to a first approximation.Keywords
