Abstract
The serological response of cotton rats and monkeys to Lansing poliomyelitis virus was studied. A specific complement fixing antigen was prepared from cotton rat nerve tissues infected with Lansing strain poliomyelitis virus. In the course of immunization, cotton rats developed a rapid rise and decline of complement-fixing antibodies; however, the neutralizing antibody developed quickly and remained elevated. The antigen failed to demonstrate complement-fixing antibodies in immunized monkeys, although the latter animals developed neutralizing antibodies.
