Effect of DDD Treatment on Metabolic Response of Dogs to ACTH Injection

Abstract
Dogs treated with ACTH develop an eosinopenia, diabetic glucose tolerance curves, enhanced excretion of uric acid and allantoin. After 3 wks. admn. of the drug the inner zones of the adrenal cortex become atrophic while the outer zones are unaffected. At this time ACTH does not bring about any of the foregoing changes, presumably because the atrophic zones are responsible for formation of the hormone(s) involved or because the remaining outer zones are refractory to ACTH.
