Abstract
Summary The causes of sp. a. are not known and it is not known whether it is a disease sui generis. It is possible that it would be more correct to speak of a syndrome which may have different causes. In the first place, the diagnosis will have to be based on x-ray evidence, particularly in the form of sacroiliitis with erosions and sclerosis which must not be confused with degenerative changes. The other radiological and laboratory findings and the clinical symptoms are also discussed. Keywords
