Abstract
Certain Green's functions recently proposed for the solution of dislocation problems in anisotropic media by Lothe (1967) and Brown (1967) are used to calculate the energy of interaction between kinks or jogs on a dislocation line and the energy of a general angular loop. The formulae are particularly simple, and are closely related to the problem of calculating the equilibrium shape of a dislocation. In the case of prismatic loops of Frank sessile dislocation in aluminium and copper, it is shown that the theory cannot account for the shape of the loops unless additional terms representing the variation of core energy with orientation of the dislocation line are included. Keywords
